I just got a 96 ford f350 cc and mine was in the same shape.
Obs ford door handle fix.
As said the cable gets gummy.
To fix the handle or the cable once you get the door panel off you should not have to remove any motors or anything to hard to remove.
Drivers door panel repair bracket regular super cab and bronco 29 95.
Drivers door fugged up cracked on the top where your arm would rest normally.
The trim tool just pops under the panel to pry out the clips if you pull the panel off without them you can either break the pieces that hold the clip or you just have to remove the clips from the door with needle nose once the panel is off.

Better option is to buy the cable latch assembly and be done with the problem.

With the metal handle sold at parts stores you will be able to open the door until the tiny tab mounting the handle to the door tears out.

Now that work on front and back doors.
You can try to lube it but it s a maybe at best.
